On the Track: Triumph West London Takes the Field The heart of Malle Mile has always been its beautifully chaotic, non-competitive racing spirit. Among the custom builds, vintage machinery and dirt-flinging specials, Triumph West London made its presence felt in style. Idir Babaci suited up to take on the terrain, pushing his Triumph Scrambler to its limits across the sprint tracks and scrambles. Watching the Scrambler tear through the turf against the backdrop of Grimsthorpe Castle's historic architecture was nothing short of spectacular. Meanwhile, Lucy-Mai was on hand representing the Triumph West London team, soaking up the atmosphere, supporting the crew in the pits and catching up with the thousands of riders who made the annual pilgrimage to Malle Mile. "The Mile isn't about lap times or silverware, it's about throwing a leg over your bike, lining up next to your mates, and having pure, unadulterated fun." The Art of Machine: Curation & Custom Craft Beyond the roar of engines and flying mud, Malle Mile continues to celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship that define custom motorcycle culture. At the centre of that is the Art of Machine exhibition. Charlie Stockwell of LIND x Stockwell Design joined an exceptional panel of industry figures, including David of Cafe Racers of Instagram, Calum of deBolex Engineering, Alec of Revival Cycles, Anthony Partridge of Partridge Design, and Malle London founders Robert and Johnny. Built by Stockwell Design for a serving soldier in the Royal Gurkha Rifles, this one-off Triumph is a tribute to two defining parts of its owner's identity: a distinguished military career in one of the world's most respected regiments and a lifelong connection to the mountains of his native Nepal. Every modification tells part of that story. Design & Heritage The custom paintwork immediately sets the Wambule apart. Inspired by the colours and insignia of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the Royal Gurkha Rifles, the combination of deep rifle green, subtle scarlet accents, and crisp black framing gives the motorcycle a disciplined military presence while remaining refined and understated. Closer inspection reveals the details that make this build truly unique. Flowing across the side panels is the outline of Mount Everest, paying tribute to the owner's homeland and the dramatic landscape of Nepal. Alongside it sits perhaps the most personal detail on the motorcycle:a hand-drawn illustration created by the owner's children, carefully incorporated into the finish so that a piece of home travels with him wherever the road leads. Built to perform Beneath the bespoke paintwork sits a Scrambler built to go beyond the tarmac. Continental TKC80 tyres give the bike its unmistakable stance while providing genuine off-road capability. A high-level front fender completes the classic scrambler silhouette, adding both function and a nod to traditional desert sleds. The soundtrack comes courtesy of a set of handcrafted stainless steel drag pipes, giving the parallel twin a deeper, more purposeful voice that perfectly matches the bike's rugged character. At the rear, a Motone tail tidy and LED lighting package remove unnecessary bulk, tightening the proportions and allowing the aggressive rear tyre to become a defining feature of the build. A Cockpit Inspired by the Trail One of the most distinctive aspects of the Wambule came directly from the owner's riding experience away from motorcycles. An avid mountain biker, he requested a move away from traditional scrambler handlebars in favour of low, wide flat drag bars that replicate the feeling of a downhill mountain bike. The result is a more aggressive riding position, placing greater weight over the front wheel and creating a direct connection between rider and machine that feels equally at home carving through corners or exploring gravel tracks. But perfection is a moving target. LIND x Stockwell Design are thrilled to unveil the second transformation of the Whiskey Blue: an evolution that strips away the excess, sharpens the details, and dials the iconic 1960s vibe up to eleven. Think Steve McQueen tearing through the dirt, reimagined for the modern rider. For this second iteration, our goal was simple: make it cleaner, meaner, and even more authentic to the golden era of British motorcycling. We went back to the workbench to refine the lines, elevate the textures, and inject a heavy dose of rugged scrambler attitude. 1. A Strip-Down Silhouette & Custom Seating The silhouette has been radically sharpened. We swapped out the original bodywork for shorter, polished aluminium fenders front and rear. They catch the light beautifully while exposing just enough rubber to let you know this bike means business. Anchoring the rider is a custom-made saddle, meticulously tailored to complement the bike's classic proportions while providing premium comfort. 2. The Ultra-Clean Classic Cockpit Up front, its a masterclass in minimalism. We custom-modified the yokes to pack the clocks low and tight and relocated the ignition to completely clear out the clutter, mounting the setup via a premium headlamp bracket by BAAK. The new chrome Flat Track handlebars feature internal wiring, keeping the rider's view purely focused on the road ahead. Tiny, ultra-bright Motogadget turn signals are tucked away discreetly at the front and rear, ensuring modern visibility without disrupting the vintage profile. To anchor the vintage look, we applied a rich gloss-black custom paint finish to the custom yokes, handlebar clamp, speedo backing cup, and fork lowers. This deep black treatment echoes the exact engineering aesthetic of mid-century Triumphs, creating a striking contrast against the chrome and the custom-painted side panels. 3. Period-Correct Lighting & Mechanical Details No modern plastic here. The Whiskey Blue now sports a vintage chrome headlamp and matching rear light, casting a classic glow that looks like a snapshot straight out of 1965. Look closer at the drivetrain, and you'll spot a striking gold chain conversion; a nod to classic racing heritage that adds a subtle pop of mechanical brilliance. 4. The Soundtrack: Pure British Thunder A bike that looks this good needs an exhaust note to match. We removed the restrictive factory catalytic converter and fitted an X-pipe midway through the exhaust system. By retaining the original, beautifully styled chrome silencers, we kept the bike's classic aesthetic perfectly intact, but the Cat removal unleashes a completely transformed personality, delivering an incredible, deep vintage growl every time you crack the throttle. 5. Scrambler Soul To give this custom T120 its signature stance, we fitted a set of chunky Continental TKC80 tyres. They deliver an aggressive, dual-sport aesthetic and a gritty scrambler feel that begs you to take the long, unpaved way home. Built from the formidable foundation of Triumph's Scrambler 1200 X, this latest creation fuses a rugged desert racer aesthetic with a moody, sophisticated dark-side attitude. The result is a machine that feels equally at home carving through remote landscapes as it does parked outside a city caf. This isn't just a motorcycle. It's a statement of intent for the modern explorer. To match the bike's aggressive new appearance, the soundtrack needed equal attention. A custom Hitchcox Motorcycles Drag Pipe system in raw brushed stainless steel transforms both the look and character of the 1200cc parallel twin. But when a discerning motorcycle enthusiast in Los Angeles wanted a truly bespoke, head-turning machine, standard baggage limits went out the window. Instead, they crated up a flagship British powerhouse, a Triumph Scrambler 1200XC, and booked it a return flight to London. The destination? The workshop of Stockwell Design at Triumph London.In aglobal custom scene where local talent is vastly abundant, shipping a motorcycle thousands of miles for a build is the ultimate statement of intent. It signals a client who isn't just looking for bolt-on modifications, but rather a specific artistic vision and level of British craftsmanship that only Stockwell Design could execute. The Triumph Scrambler 1200XC is already a formidable machine straight from the factory floor. With its high-torque parallel-twin, premium long-travel suspension, and commanding stance, it sits firmly at the top of the modern classic category. It is a bike that oozes heritage while packing genuine off-road capability. For a builder, cutting into a machine this inherently well-designed is a high-stakes gamble. The goal wasnt to fix what was broken, but to strip away the mass-production compromises and elevate the bike into a rolling piece of functional art. "When a bike flies across an ocean to get to your bench, the pressure is on," says Stockwell. "You aren't just building a bike for the local bike night; youre building something that has to justify a transatlantic shipping manifest every time the owner turns the key." Stockwell approached the 1200XC with a philosophy of aggressive refinement. Every modification was calculated to enhance the bikes muscular silhouette while injecting a level of finish usually reserved for high-end luxury timepieces. The silhouette of the Scrambler was drastically tightened. The bulky factory rear fender was refined, replaced by a minimalist aluminium setup neatly integrating the lighting for a clean, sharp tail section. Up front, a 1970s Dakar Rally front fairing was moulded by Crooked Customs along with a high-level motocross front fender to cement the bike's new, aggressive, urban stance. The stock seat was replaced with a bespoke, hand-stitched leather saddle, contoured specifically to the rider's specifications and designed to age beautifully under the California sun. The centrepiece of the build is the stunning custom paint theory applied to the iconic Triumph fuel tank. Moving away from standard factory graphics, Stockwell and the team at Image Design Custom, led by Sammy Morgan, applied a deep, multi-layered finish that plays with the light, subtly contrasting raw brushed metal elements with a deep and rich steel to-black fade. You can'tmodify a big British twin without addressing the soundtrack. The signature high-mounted exhaust system was swapped out in favour of a one-off Zard complete system, finished in Black Cerakote and Carbon,optimising the flow and giving the engine a deeper, more visceral growl without losing that classic Scrambler aesthetic. The cockpit was similarly decluttered, featuring premium micro-switches for the Denali Fog Lamps and Navigation devices, internal handlebar wiring, and bar-end mirrors that keep the rider's view forward entirely unobstructed. Crucially, this build also required a complete ergonomic reimagining. Standing at an imposing 6'5", the client specified that the suspension be lengthened and tweaked to perfectly suit his frame and adventures in the rugged California terrain. Leveraging Stockwell's long-standing relationship with hlins in Sweden, the team adapted and customised a one-of-one pair of front forks. To match, they paired the front end with a completely custom-made set of hlins Blackline rear shocks built to 1200 XC specifications. The entire setup was mated to a beautifully Cerakoted 1200 XC swingarm, ensuring the bike's geometry and handling remained absolutely flawless despite the increased ride height. With the final bolts torqued and the paint polished to a mirror finish, the Stockwell Torrence Trail Scrambler has traded the moody skies of London for its return flight back to the West Coast. Seeing this bike on the streets of Los Angeles will be a lesson in contrasts. It carries the raw, industrial grit and tailored precision of British engineering, but is purpose-built to carve through the canyons of Malibu and cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway. Their exhibition was a magnet for racing purists and modern performance fans alike, tracing a lineage from vintage tarmac legends to today's heavy-hitting track weapons. The H-D stand featured an incredible timeline of speed: The 1970s XR750TT: A pristine, fully restored legendary road racer. Seeing this pushrod V-twin icon in the flesh, the fairing-wrapped sibling to America's most dominant dirt-tracker, was a masterclass in nostalgic engineering. The VR1000: The legendary, rare 1990s Superbike contender. With its liquid-cooled, 60-degree engine and distinctive split-colour livery, it stood as a holy grail moment for sportbike historians in attendance. The Factory Racing Bagger: For many attendees, the absolute highlight was finally getting up close and personal with a modern H-D Factory Racing Bagger. The name blends Revolution Max and Caf Racer, but the bikes soul reaches much further back, drawing a clear line to the late 70s XLCR, one of the most intriguing and misunderstood machines in Harleys history The RMCR isnt just a design exercise. Harley describes it as a tribute to Willie G. Davidson, the legendary designer and grandson of company co-founder William A. Davidson. The original XLCR was Willie G.s passion project, a factory caf racer introduced at a time when Harley-Davidson was anything but performance-focused. Commercially, the XLCR struggled. Just over 3,000 units were produced between 1977 and 1978, with a handful following in 1979. But time has shifted perception. Its rarity, angular styling, and unapologetic attitude have since elevated it to one of the most collectable Harleysever built. Harleys designers have clearly studied the XLCRs silhouette, lifting several of its most distinctive cues and reworking them for the RMCR. Back then, he rode bobbers and choppers that shook, rattled, and demanded constant tinkering. They werent perfect, nor refined, but they had soul. Fourteen-inch chrome ape hangers rise confidently above the tank, instantly rewriting the Speedmasters silhouette. Where the standard model leans into heritage chrome and polished nostalgia, the Banshee strips that back in favour of blacked-out intent, laced with just a whisper of gold. This isn't a cosmetic exercise;its a recalibration. At first glance, the Banshee feels industrial, purposeful, and composed. Denim Black and Vivid Black dominate the bodywork, layered with Dakar Gold accents that surface subtly rather than scream for attention. This is a countryside-bred reinterpretation, and a machine shaped by the restrained strength and quiet honesty of rural Britain. It doesnt shout. It endures. The influence isnt literal, but philosophical. Think classic Land Rover Defender. Not because it looks like one, but because it carries the same sense of purpose. Earth-tone finishes replace gloss and flash. Muted greens, sanded neutrals, graphite greys. Military and agricultural cues appear not as decoration, but as design intent. It started life as a well-loved 2019 Triumph Speed Twin 1200, clocking real miles and wearing the honest marks of use. When it arrived in our Vauxhall workshop, it carried the patina of a bike that had done exactly what it was built to do: ridden hard and ridden often. What followed wasnt just a refresh, buta full reset. Handed over to Charlie Stockwell, the Speed Twinwas stripped back and reimagined from the ground up. The commuter-focused accessories and practical add-ons were removed. In their place, a sharper, leaner, more deliberate stance was created. Every surface was reconditioned, andevery detail reconsidered Performance hasnt simply been restored, but also elevated. Up front, an Andreani fork cartridge kit transforms the feel through the bars, tightening feedback and control. At the rear, hlins Blackline TR965 shocks providecomposure and precision, giving the Speed Twin a more planted, confident ride. Braking is sharpened with Galfer wave discs front and rear, delivering improved bite and feel. A fresh set of Dunlop Mutant tyres enhances grip and stability, reinforcing the bikes newfound edge. Breathing is opened up through a Zard 2-2 exhaust system, modified to fit the Speed Twin platform. The result isa freer-flowing setup with a deeper, more assertive soundtrack, which is mechanical, purposeful, and unmistakable. Quite literally, everything has been upgraded or reconditioned. Visually, the transformation is just as considered. The custom paintwork from Image Design Custom has been finished in Dirty Sage and Denim Black, giving the Highland its muted, earthy, and grounded identity. All brightwork has been treated in black Cerakote totightenthe silhouette and reduce visual noise across the engine and chassis. Bernard first reached out to Charlie a few months ago with the idea of riding his new Triumph Bonneville T120 Black over from Cork, Ireland, in the New Year, with the aim of transforming it into a one-of-one custom build, a bike he intends to keep forever, one that carries deep personal meaning. Over the following months, Bernard and Charlie spoke weekly, discussing every detail of the build, exchanging ideas, and refining the vision while counting down to the delivery date. The plan was ambitious: to pre-build, fabricate, upholster, and custom-paint the entire bike in parts in advance, allowing the transformation to take place while Bernard and Margo spent the week in London. With the specification and design finalised in December, the project began to take shape in preparation for the bikes arrival last Monday, along with a promise of a two-day turnaround so Bernard and Margo could catch the ferry back to Ireland on Thursday night. The result is a stunning custom-built Triumph T120 finished in Black Velvet and Dakar Gold, featuring the signature tough detailing that has become synonymous with Stockwells approach to the modern classic platform. For Charlie Stockwell and the team, the modern Bonneville is a raw canvas, ready to be shaped into something more personal. Classic British heritage stays at the core, while creative custom work gives each build its own identity. Cino sits alongside named T120 builds, such as Twiggy, Raven, and Hurricane, forming part of an evolving series of modern classics with character. Each one starts from the same foundations, but leaves the workshop with its own stance, attitude, and story. INTRODUCING The Cino The Cino T120 carries all the Stockwell Bonneville hallmarks, but pushes the formula further. Up front, hlins fork internals sharpen the response, while fully adjustable FOX Racing rear shocks transform the back end. Together, they turn the T120 into a far more precise, planted, and confidence-inspiring machine on real roads. Performance continues with a Zard 22 blacked-out exhaust system. It gives the bike a stronger, more purposeful line through the profile, while opening up a raw soundtrack that suits the T120s torque-rich twin. Visually, the Cino moves into its own space. One-off paintwork, bespoke tank and side panel logos, and carefully chosen details create a warm but gritty presence. The gold wheel hubs for the Banshee T120 are now finished and ready for re-lacing. Next up are renderings for the custom paint design. Fresh Off the Bench The Himalayan Sage T120 rolled off the bench this afternoon, freshly completed. It features full hlins suspension upgrades front and rear, along with Motone fenders and LED lighting throughout. A gold D.I.D. chain, dresser bars, bar-end mirrors, and a custom-painted gas tank complete the build. Incoming Project Flying In From Los Angeles Weve also got a Scrambler 1200 XE on its way to us this weekend, flying in from Los Angeles for a full custom makeover. A Collaboration Driven by Craft At the heart of this project is Charlie Stockwell:renowned custom builder, designer, and long-time Triumph collaborator. Working alongside Triumph Londons expert technicians, Stockwell approached the Ghost Scrambler not as a modification, but as a sculptural redesign. The goal was to elevate the Scrambler 1200 XCs inherent versatility and off-road spirit while infusing it with a refined, almost architectural sense of form. Every panel, component, and finish has been selected or reworked with intention. The familiar Scrambler silhouette remains, but it has been sharpened and purified. Unnecessary visual noise has been stripped away, leaving behind a machine that appears both futuristic and timeless, much like the Leica design language that inspired it. Inspired by Leica: Precision Meets Restraint The influence of the Leica Ghost Edition is present not through literal imitation, but through a shared design philosophy: clean geometry, purposeful functionality, and a commitment to premium materials. Yet on the Ghost Scrambler, several details go beyond philosophy and draw directly from Leicas iconic visual language, thoughtfully translated into motorcycle form. Most striking is the custom headlamp surround, a sculpted piece inspired by the visored ring of a Leica camera lens. Instead of a conventional circular bezel, Stockwell crafted a surround that mirrors the stepped, protective shading found on Leicas lens hoods. The resulting shape gives the front end a distinctive depth and shadow line, echoing the precision machining of photographic equipment while adding a focused, almost cinematic presence to the motorcycles face. The braking system has also been given a significant upgrade, with a pair of radial callipers from British manufacturer HEL Performance. Sound, Form, and Function For decades, the exhaust has been one of the first components modified by riders,whether to refine the sound, sharpen the look, or both. In the case of the Bobber RR, the goal was to achieve both while preserving the flowing lines of the original Triumph headers. To accomplish this, S&S Cycles USA,one of Stockwells long-standing partners,was brought into the fold. Their Grand National Slip-Ons were carefully modified to fit the original Bobber headers, maintaining the visual harmony of the bike while giving it a deeper, more assertive tone. At the time, S&S didnt produce any components for the Triumph range. But that collaboration sparked something larger,leading to the development of the S&S Grand National Slip-On, now available for all Triumph 400 models. Born from the joint efforts between Stockwell and the S&S team in the US, it stands as a testament to how innovation can emerge from custom creativity. EL POTATO SCRAMBLER 900:LXSD056 This Scrambler 9 isn't your average spud. Revealed at the 2025 London Bike Shed Moto Show, El Potato is bold, stripped-back, and unapologetically different. hlins suspension, aggressive tyres, and a raw stance set the tone, while a custom Image Design paint scheme gives it unmistakable flair. Inspired by the energy of 70s American day vans, its playful yet potent, and every detail, from custom wheels to vibrant paint, invites you to ride with a grin. GHOST SCRAMBLER: LXSD012 Next is elegance in motion. Inspired by the Leica Ghost Edition camera, the Ghost Scrambler 1200 XC pairs timeless styling with purposeful performance. Commissioned by architect and TV presenter George Clarke, its a build that speaks to precision and artistry with clean lines, premium finishes, and a quiet confidence that says just as muchasany loud paint job ever could. BONNEVILLE T120 DS:LXSD003 While not built from a stock Triumph Scrambler, the T120 DS was the first collaboration between LIND Triumph London and Stockwell Design and a Bonneville with unmistakableScrambler soul. The Story Behind the BUILD When we first set out to create the Sunraiser Bonneville T100, our goal was simple: to celebrate British motorcycling heritage with bold, modern craftsmanshipand to share that vision on the world stage. What we couldnt have predicted was the incredible community that would rally behind us along the way. This year, the Sunraiser represented the UK in the Triumph Originals World Championshipa global competition that showcases the very best custom Triumph builds from around the world. Built by Stockwell Design in collaboration with Triumph London for McFly bassist Dougie Poynter, the Sunraiser drew inspiration from British heritage and the elegance of 50s and 60s culture. A GLOBAL TOP 5 FINISH After months of design, craftsmanship, and fine-tuning, we were proud to see the Sunraiser named a Top 5 finalist worldwide. Your votes, shares, and words of encouragement made all the difference, helping our custom Bonneville stand tall among some of the most creative builds on the planet. Our UK team were awarded a Mark of Excellence for British Originality by judge Ricardo Pessoa, Founder and Creative Director of Coolnvintage in Portugal, who commented: It comes closest in form, feel, and intent to the original 1960s British caf racer spirit, stripped-down, purposeful, and rebellious. The Story Behind the BUILD Some builds are designed to turn heads. Others, to make history. The Sunraiser Bonneville T100 does both. Built by Stockwell Design for McFly bassist Dougie Poynter, this custom Triumph T100 is more than just a conversation starter; its the UKs official entry in the Triumph Originals Custom Competition and proudly stands among the final five globally. Weve been following this journey for a while. You might remember our last update from the Bike Shed Show 2025, when Dougie first saw his T100 at around 80% completion. Fast forward to the Malle Mile Festival, set against the spectacular backdrop of Grimsthorpe Castle. The complete Sunraiser finally rolled out in all its glory. RollING OUT AT MALLE MILE The Malle Mile Festival rose again for its 11th consecutive year, set against the stunning backdrop of the uniquely beautiful Grimsthorpe Castle. If youve ever been to the Malle Mile, youll know its not your average motorcycle event. Its an unapologetic celebration of two wheels in all their forms. Riders and revellers come together for the most thrilling and delightfully inappropriate motorcycle race and festival in the country, a true celebration of motorcycle culture in all its forms. This year's event was no different, featuringa non-stop programme of chaotic racing, world-class music on the Mile Stage, the Art of Machine show(with Charlie Stockwell on the Malle Judging Jury), striking photography, custom motorcycle installations, immersive automotive exhibitions, the iconic Malle Scramble, and unforgettable sets from top DJs at the now-legendary Mile after-party. But, for us, the highlight was the T100 reveal, which drew admiration from fans and motorcycle enthusiasts alike.Amidst the roar of scrambles and the buzz of custom showcases, Charlie presented the finished T100 to Dougiein an emotional moment that perfectly captured the spirit of this build: passion,heritage, and pure British craftsmanship. FromConcept to metal The concept came together quickly. Dougie wanted something classic, Charlie wanted something with soul. Both kept coming back to the 1950s and 1960s, an era of aviation glamour, art deco curves, and pure British engineering. What would happen if you fused that world with a modern T100? The Sunraiser is the answer. This isnt a catalogue build. Every component has a reason to exist. The fluted aluminium engine covers echo aerodynamic design. The hand-turned gas cap offers a tactile, bespoke piece of craftsmanship. At the rear, the 1950sera ofaviation doesnt just inspire the tail lamp; it is that era of aviation: a genuine vintage aeroplane navigation light taken straight from the wing of an aircraft. Lighting details throughout the bike draw inspiration from vintage Jaguars and aircraft instrument panels, reinforcing the connection to mid-century engineering and style. Nothing here feels added for its own sake. Everything is purposeful, considered, and beautifully executed. Why the Bonneville T100? Charlie calls the Bonneville the ultimate British icon, and its easy to see why. The T100 is a platform that strikes a balance between elegance and mechanical honesty, a builders dream canvas. Every build starts with a question, Charlie says. Do we want something that feels lived-in, like an heirloom, or something straight out of a 50s showroom? For Dougie, it was about timeless beauty. Clean, classy, and unmistakably British. The finished T100 nails that brief. It feels rooted in history without being trapped there. Its not retro for the sake of nostalgia; its relevant. For the UK entry, Charlie Stockwell has stepped up to lead the charge as part of the LIND x Stockwell Design collaboration. Partnering with ourTriumph Londonstore and collaborating with musician, songwriter, and Triumph enthusiast Dougie Poynter, Charlie isnt just building a show bike; hes crafting a rolling statement. One that fuses history, attitude, and identity. Two weeks ago, we teased the beginning of the build. Now, the direction is becoming clearer and even more exciting. Dougie's First Look at the T100 Charlie has long favoured the Bonneville line as a foundation for his custom work, and with good reason. The T100 offers balance, elegance, and that unmistakable Triumph DNA. Its a builders dream: equally suited to stripped-down minimalism or refined, high-gloss nostalgia. When Dougie got his first look at the bike, stripped of paint and 80% complete, he was buzzing with ideas. The timing couldnt have been better: fresh from the Bike Shed Show, immersed in a sea of wild custom styles, his brain was spinning. Should the bike appear as if it were once immaculate, now aged and patinated, telling a story of time and character? Or something that looked like it had just rolled out of a 1950s Triumph showroom or RAF hangar, gleaming and untouched? Right now, the concept lives somewhere in the middle, and thats where things get interesting. Vintage Aviation Meets British Steel The builds creative direction began to take off after a few key conversations. With Dougie's love for 1950s culture, the pair kept returning to the idea of that eras aviation glamour and industrial elegance. The curved lines, fluted metals, and the mechanical poetry of British engineering. Old art deco posters. Cocktail bars. A Triumph as a time machine. So, as he does, Charlie took those cues and started weaving them into the build: fluted aluminium engine covers, a hand-turned gas cap, intricate, cast lighting details you'd find straight out of a vintage Jag or aircraft instrument panel, and a tail lamp styled like a 50s wing-mounted plane light, made from proper glass. These arent bolt-on catalogue parts. These are bespoke details, one-offs and custom-crafted. Charlie has drawn on years of experience, going back to his Harley-Davidson and bobber-building days, calling on trusted craftspeople and fabricators to bring this concept to life. The result so far? A Bonneville that blends Triumph tradition with a classic aviation twist. Clean, classy, and unmistakably British. Whats Next? With just a few weeks left until the Triumph Originals deadline, the pressure is on, but so is the creativity. The exhaust design is being finalised, the wheels are likely to change, and as for the paintwork well, thats still under wraps. Lets just say, something bold is brewing, and we wouldnt expect anything less. Ultimately, this build is about more than looks. Its about capturing a feeling, something nostalgic, soulful, and completely unique. Charlies expert hand and Dougies creative input are fuelling a collaboration that feels fresh, authentic, and deeply personal. "There was a moment The Mile idea started and its the same story that has been repeated by a million motorcyclists over the last 100 years and Im certain it will continue to happen for the next 100 years, you suddenly find yourself on a deserted road, or in a deserted field with a motorcycle and the thought pops into your head, I wonder how fast I can go?. Waiting at the lights with a friend beside you, a shared glance, the light goes green, the flag drops, the gate opens, before your conscious brain has a chance to rationalise the situation, or make a plan, the throttle is open, the sparks are flying, the noise is increasing and youre thrust forward, into the drag race, into the future." - Malle London I never made it to the first Malle Mile, only 40 something people did, but when I saw the pictures it looked epic, and I had to make sure I went to the 2nd one. It was a crazy, eclectic mix of motorcycle enthusiasts that could all hang out and ride together, at, I think it was Kevington Hall at the time. A chance to blast around on bikes in a wild but strangely controlled manner. A kinda controlled motorcycle race festival with great sportsmanship. We spent a few years doing it there. I suppose when I think about it, it was where Stockwell Racing started, or at least the idea of it, as it was the first time I met my now great friend, Jake Young. I was pitched against him and got my arse kicked on the race track. Back then there was a broad spectrum of different motorcycles, old and new, with, you know, rat bikes, classic and vintage stuff. Fast forward a few years and people are now starting their year building bikes specifically for The Mile with new models, most converted with a Scrambler feel or even restoring old Scramblers; classic, vintage models to ride at the event. It was the first place I properly raced a Harley-Davidson too. With the Stockwell Racing Sportster Flat Track bikes having a full season under our belts in the National Championship we thought we'd enter them in the 2019 Malle Mile. Swapped out the Flat Track tires for 19" knobblies and installed a front brake (Flat Track bikes don't have front brakes). Those bikes have since become iconic for Malle fans and we've achieved many race wins on them over the years. It's all come together for a proud moment seeing a 20-foot advertisement at this years Malle, with our race bike in action front and centre. This year was the 10th anniversary of The Mile. My 9th and first without racing. The event isnow held at Grimsthorpe Castle, near Bourne, Lincolnshire, the hometown of our very own, Sam James of Triumph London. Sam has been with us at Triumph London for 5 years now and has become a senior and respected member of the team, but he hasnt always been 'on the tools'. Sam grew up in the little town of Bourne, just a stone's throw from the very grand Grimsthorpe Castle. At the age of 17, he spent two years working in the Tea Rooms of the Castle, serving drinks and sandwiches and probably even the odd Ploughman's to the flocks of visitors each day. A bit of a family tradition it would seem. His Grandfather worked there as an Engineer for 40+ years. His Gran worked in the kitchen. His Mum and two Aunties have all worked there as Tour Guides. They are all still residents of the surrounding area. Sebastian Miller, Heir to the Grimsthorpe Estate and current resident, called us at Triumph London and requested to have his very own custom Bonneville T120 built and that it be delivered to him during the Malle Mile, along with being raced and entered into the 'Art of Custom' exhibition. Our custom team all felt it would be a very proud moment, given his history with the castle, for Sam to lead the project and build the bike for Sebastian. For the build we wanted to honour the Triumph's of the 60s and 70s, a bike that you might see Bud Ekins ride in a Hare & Hound scramble race while maintaining all the modern benefits of a T120. We opted for a shortened subframe and saddle, custom madeflat track inspired handlebars, polished aluminium classic scrambler mudguards, a one-off shotgun exhaust system from Hitchcox Motorcycles, and knobbly tyres to name a few. More to come from Hitchcox & Stockwell Design very soon. Paired with myself as Sam's assistant, the build began. Simple, classy, and classic was the brief and a deadline of the 18th July was decided so we could hand the bike over to Sebastian at the event. Fast forward a few weeks later at Grimsthorpe, to Sam rolling the finished bike out of the van at the Malle Mile. A mix of nervousness and excitement. What Sam didnt know was that we'd entered him and the custom built T120 into the races at Malle (with Sebastian's consent of course). He, as expected, took it in his stride. Saturday afternoon 100 custom built motorcycles and race bikes were entered into the Art of Custom exhibition, displayed in front of the castle for a panel of judges to cast their eyes over and choose who they would award, right before the sprint race would take place from the castle gates. The jury featured DeBolex Customs, Revival Cycles of the USA, Ziggy Moto, Stockwell Design & Goblin Works, who had the task of making or breaking hearts. The Malle Mile Sprint Race would soon take place from the castle gates. Each custom entry and rider was ready to leave the gates of the Castle head to head against a rival rider and sprint away from the start line in knockout heats. Sam coolly and calmly, yet quite likely a bag of nerves, took an impressive victory in his first two heats. Can you imagine the grin on his face when crossing the finish line! Later that evening the Malle hosts and founders, Robert and Jonny would join the panel of judges on stage to announce the winners of the award for each category. As each award is given out, to Sam's surprise "Sam James of Triumph London" is called out for the award of Best Custom for use on the Great Malle Rally. What a proud moment for a guy that grew up a stone's throw away from the castle and used to walk his dogs across the lawns of the venue as a child, to now be on stage collecting an award for a bike he has built to Sebastian Miller, heir to the castle. With Sebastian, his family, Sam's colleagues, and the thousands who entered Malle watching in delight, it was a touching moment to witness a huge achievement for both Sam and Triumph London, in an extremely proud day for the local lad. The hosts, Robert and Jonny, who had been riding together for years, started a successful luggage company from an idea in a bar at 2 am, then decided they wanted to create an event to help promote their brand, and it'sgot better every year since. The Malle Mile is an annual event hosted alongside Rally and Race events all around the world, from the UK to the Arctic and more, all while supporting charities. It allows people like us to go and experience amazing days out and make so many memories through ridiculously fun gatherings that end up being the moto party of the year. It's shocking how much everyone gets on while thrashing bikes around all day. It's the most wild, yet somehow, most controlled bike event I've ever been to. Honestly, it's my favourite motorcycle event in the world. I've attended, promoted & worked countless events across different countries and continents, and for entertainment, riding, parties, racing, music, everything, along with getting to enjoy it in such an awesome place, I mean in castle grounds, it's stunning. You can only admire what Robert, Jonny, and the team at Malle London have managed to do with it, and it makes me happy knowing it's only getting bigger and bigger each year. Designed and built in-house at Watford Harley-Davidson by Matthew Alder and Charlie Stockwell, the two cruisers have been designed as a pair, painted, and customised to match each others personalities. Both bikes feature DynoJet Power Vision Stage I tuning, a H-D Heavy Breather Intake, and a beautifully curved Vance & Hines Big Radius 2-into-2 exhaust system which looks as gallant as it sounds. This doesnt subtract from comfortability either. With unmatched quality from Legend Air Suspension, the bikes ride like a dream on any bump, crack, or rut in the road too. From the Thunderbike halls in Hamminkeln, Germany, Stockwell selected custom front and rear fenders for both models along with a solo saddle, and side mount license plate, matching the subtle design with Mini LED front turn signals and multi-function rear lights. With forthright, bobber style, the Breakout features custom Thunderbike risers and blacked-out handlebars, while the Fat Boy bears imposing 16 ape hangers and RSD risers. The ends of both bars are fitted with bold PM Merc grips. THE DESIGN Stockwell Design and Image Design Custom have worked together for over 12 years collaborating on over 200 custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles for customers worldwide. Together they have designed and painted the Midnight Breakout and Fat Boy in a sinister Black & Gold theme thats been carried across our Midnight Limited Edition Series. Black paint wraps the engine covers, shifter, rear brake lever, and brake discs, with the front end and wheels of the Fat Boy being completely blacked out too. The lifter block covers, and lower rockers stand out on the engine, matching the distinct gold of the calipers and classy 114 and 117 debossed into the derby covers. The finishing touch is a striking lightning bolt placed upon the kill switch, a symbol of the Midnight identity. Our Baja X Series, now displayed and for sale in our Triumph London dealership, was created by our in-house custom bike designer Charlie Stockwell of Stockwell Design, and the team at Triumph London. This was an idea dreamt up by Stockwell and Sam James of Triumph London months ago while watching re-runs of old motorcycle rally footage including that of the Baja 1000 Rally in Southern California and Mexico. The tone was set and the pair decided to build the three bikes andhave them ready for reveal at the annual Bike Shed Moto Show 2024. We wanted an 80s inspired enduro bike that could havequite easily been raced at the iconic Baja 1000, a race that started way back in 1967 and had featured Steve McQueen, Bud Ekins, Paul Newman, and many other iconic names that have a strong link with the Triumph brand. Think of On Any Sunday and that will set the tone for the type of off-road inspired racer that we wanted to create. The race is nuts! Its a non-stop desert race (well you gotta stop for fuel). THE BAJA 1000 Located less than 100 miles south of San Diego, sitting comfortably on the Pacific coast of Mexico, you'll find the small city of Ensenada. Every year you'll find daring adrenaline junkies gathering in this beautiful seaside city for the annual, 1000-mile-long, Baja 1000: the final race of a four-race series. Ensenada hosts the event due to its location as the entry point to the Baja Californian desert, a desolate and other-worldly location. Host to mountains, vast swathes of inhospitable desert, and the occasional ranch, the Baja desert has it all in terms of the most testing terrains available. Not only does it offer the harshest landscapes, but the weather conditions also mean racers could encounter heavy fog, blistering heat, or even snow! Then there is the silt: a thin, sand-like substance. Kicked up by the vehicle's spinning wheels, silt impairs a driver's vision and can expose any weaknesses in the engine's durability. In other races, drivers can get used to the consistency of circuits; the Baja 1000 offers no such solace. The Baja 1000 track alternates between a loop, beginning and ending in Ensenada, and a point-to-point track, which starts in Ensenada before finishing in La Paz. And no loop or track is the same when they return to the calendar. Careering down coastlines or flying through the desert, this track is ruthless; it is generally seen as a massive accomplishment if you even manage to make it to the finish line.
