JAMES' G 310 GS GRAND ADVENTURE.

This week hear all about what the BMW G 310 GS is capable of as James shares his story. Since collecting his brand-new motorcycle from us just a few weeks ago he has done over 4,000 miles and taken on the sort of mammoth trip most wouldn't attempt on a G 310 GS. But how did he get on? Find out below...

James' story started on 23 May, buying his brand-new BMW G 310 GS from LIND Motorrad Welwyn Garden City. Four days were spent running it in and thanks to the team we managed to get James squeezed in for his first service before going down to Devon and preparing himself for around 800 to 1000 miles. He then attended the Adventure Bike Rider Festival at Ragley Hall Estate in June, considered the world's greatest celebration of adventure motorcycling.

Now things get serious... James, accompanied by a group of 22, headed from Newhaven, on the 4 July for a 10-day round trip riding through France to northern Italy and eventually taking part in the Stella Alpina Rally; the highest possible off-road track in the Alps, 3,009m above sea level up the Colle del Sommeiller. Mostly keeping off motorways so they could enjoy proper roads, the Alps didn't disappoint in their stunning beauty.

The little GS made it up the pass and back down to the summit with no problems and James was glad he'd taken the precaution of fitting a Rally Raid sump and engine guard as it was extremely rocky! James crossed his way back home via as many mountain roads as he could take in and eventually reached the French seaport of Dieppe for his journey home.

After being back home for just one day, he was off again for six days. His first stop was in Derbyshire for the night followed by trips through the Yorkshire Dales & County Durham ending with a night in Cumbria. The adventure didn't end there though as James headed further north, across the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne before spending a night on the Scottish border.

The next day James dropped down to Kielder Forest, the largest man-made woodland in England, taking the gravel road through the middle. Heading further south he reached the Lake District to experience the Hardknott Pass and spend a night in the market town of Kendal. The following morning he took a short ride to Heysham where he rode the Ferry to the Isle of Man for two nights. After completing a lap of the rugged coastline and visiting Murray's Motorcycle Museum (James says it's a must-see!) he started the final journey home via Liverpool.

After visiting a good mate South of Wigan for a cuppa and a chat James made his final trip back to Hertfordshire. By now his G 310 GS has done 4,228 miles, all experienced in three months. As for James, he had this to say about his trusty motorcycle: "The little GS was faultless. On the longest day in the saddle we covered over 300 mile's and I have to say, the bike handled it all easily. Super comfortable and more capable than you may think. Bigger isn't always better!"
