Some custom motorcycles begin with a brand-new bike and a blank sheet of paper. The Duchy Street Twin began two years underground.

Once a well-used daily commuter, this 2017 Triumph Street Twin had spent years earning its keep on the streets of London before circumstances brought its story to an abrupt halt. When its owner moved abroad, the Triumph was left behind in an underground London car park, where it would remain untouched for the next two years.

By the time he returned, simply getting the old commuter back on the road wasn't enough. A new chapter was beginning in his own life with the opening of Duchy, his new restaurant in Shoreditch. The Street Twin deserved one too.

From Daily Rider to Forgotten Triumph

Before it went underground, the Street Twin had been exactly what a modern classic should be: ridden regularly, relied upon and properly used. Two stationary years hadn't been so kind.

Rather than treating the motorcycle as something to simply recommission, its owner brought it to
Stockwell Design at Triumph London with a much bigger ambition. The bike would be stripped back and comprehensively rebuilt, transforming the tired commuter into something that felt completely new without erasing the history behind it.

The brief was aggressive but refined. Dark, purposeful and understated, with one very personal detail at its centre.

Starting Again

The transformation began with the Street Twin being torn down to its frame. Rather than concentrating solely on the obvious visual changes, Stockwell Design approached Duchy as a complete mechanical and cosmetic overhaul. Components throughout the motorcycle were removed and refinished, while the chassis, suspension, braking and final drive were given attention to make sure the finished machine rode as convincingly as it looked.

Öhlins TR644 Blackline rear dampers now sit at the back, complemented by Öhlins FSK122 fork internals up front. Together, they give the Street Twin a considerably more focused foundation. A D.I.D gold chain conversion and billet black rear sprocket continue the mechanical transformation, while Heidenau K60 Scout tyres introduce a more rugged edge to the bike's stance.

It might have started life as a commuter, but Duchy was never going to return as one.

Darker by Design

Visually, almost everything was taken in the opposite direction from the original Street Twin's traditional brightwork. Components across the motorcycle have been finished in Black Cerakote, creating a deep, understated base that allows individual details to stand out rather than compete for attention.

Black Street Slammer handlebars lower the profile, paired with Motone Tri-Line bar-end mirrors and adjustable brake and clutch levers. A black Motone sump guard adds another purposeful touch below, while the Motone Viper saddle sharpens the silhouette from behind the tank. The result is deliberately restrained. No unnecessary decoration. No change simply for the sake of changing it. And then there's the green.

A Little Piece of Duchy

The fuel tank provides the defining detail of the entire build. Finished in bespoke Duchy Green Denim and Denim Black, its rich moss-green tone was chosen as a direct reference to the interior of the owner's new Shoreditch restaurant. It's a subtle connection between two completely different projects arriving at an important moment in his life: one being opened for the first time, the other being brought back.

Against the predominantly black motorcycle, the green becomes even more distinctive. Personal without being obvious, and meaningful without needing to announce itself. It's the sort of detail that makes a custom motorcycle belong unmistakably to one person.

The Second Act

There would have been easier ways to deal with a seven-year-old motorcycle that had spent its last two years sitting beneath London. But that wasn't really the point.

The Duchy Street Twin is as much about preserving a motorcycle's story as it is transforming its appearance. A hard-working commuter became a forgotten bike in an underground car park, only to return as something more considered, capable and personal than it had ever been before. The same motorcycle. A completely different chapter.
