Custom Triumph Ghost Scrambler: A Masterpiece of Design and Motorcycle Craftsmanship

When two worlds of precision design come together, the result can be remarkable. That is exactly what happened when Stockwell Design and LIND Triumph London reunited to create the Ghost Scrambler, a custom Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC that blends timeless elegance, deliberate engineering, and expressive artistry.

Informed by the minimalist sophistication of the Leica Ghost Edition digital camera, this bespoke build redefines what a modern custom motorcycle can be: clean, purposeful, and effortlessly distinctive.

A Collaboration Driven by Craft

At the heart of this project is Charlie Stockwell: renowned custom builder, designer, and long-time Triumph collaborator. Working alongside Triumph London’s expert technicians, Stockwell approached the Ghost Scrambler not as a modification, but as a sculptural redesign. The goal was to elevate the Scrambler 1200 XC’s inherent versatility and off-road spirit while infusing it with a refined, almost architectural sense of form.

Every panel, component, and finish has been selected or reworked with intention. The familiar Scrambler silhouette remains, but it has been sharpened and purified. Unnecessary visual noise has been stripped away, leaving behind a machine that appears both futuristic and timeless, much like the Leica design language that inspired it.
 

Inspired by Leica: Precision Meets Restraint

The influence of the Leica Ghost Edition is present not through literal imitation, but through a shared design philosophy: clean geometry, purposeful functionality, and a commitment to premium materials. Yet on the Ghost Scrambler, several details go beyond philosophy and draw directly from Leica’s iconic visual language, thoughtfully translated into motorcycle form.

Most striking is the custom headlamp surround, a sculpted piece inspired by the visored ring of a Leica camera lens. Instead of a conventional circular bezel, Stockwell crafted a surround that mirrors the stepped, protective shading found on Leica’s lens hoods. The resulting shape gives the front end a distinctive depth and shadow line, echoing the precision machining of photographic equipment while adding a focused, almost cinematic presence to the motorcycle’s face. 

The paint and surface finishes also pay homage to Leica’s use of premium raw materials, particularly the soft, matte textures of its Ghost Edition bodies. The Ghost Scrambler features finishes that evoke brushed and bead-blasted aluminium, capturing the cool tactility of Leica’s raw metal surfaces. These tones were deliberately chosen to let light glide softly across the bike’s contours, much like the muted, reflection-controlled surfaces of a high-end camera body designed for discretion.

Other components follow the same disciplined aesthetic with minimal fasteners, restrained graphics, precisely machined accents, and a consistent monochrome palette that prioritises purity of form over embellishment. Together, these Leica-inspired cues create a motorcycle that feels engineered with the same intent, clarity, and tactile sophistication as the camera that influenced it.

Commissioned with Vision

The Ghost Scrambler was commissioned by George Clarke, the acclaimed architect, designer, and television presenter known for his eye for innovative spaces and thoughtful craftsmanship. Clarke’s fascination with clean form and functional design made him the ideal patron for this project.

For Clarke, the Ghost Scrambler is not merely a motorcycle. It is a personal design statement and an embodiment of his passion for precision, individuality, and mechanical beauty. As a rider and a designer, he sought a machine that would carry his identity with subtle power. Stockwell and the Triumph London team brought that vision to life.
 

Refinement in Every Detail

Though the Ghost Scrambler maintains the capable heart of the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC, its character has been completely transformed:
