Custom Triumph Highland Speed Twin: Original Soul, Reconditioned and Elevated

The Highland Speed Twin, built by Stockwell Design in collaboration with Triumph London, didn’t begin as a blank canvas. It started life as a well-loved 2019 Triumph Speed Twin 1200, clocking real miles and wearing the honest marks of use. When it arrived in our Vauxhall workshop, it carried the patina of a bike that had done exactly what it was built to do: ridden hard and ridden often.

What followed wasn’t just a refresh, but a full reset. Handed over to Charlie Stockwell, the Speed Twin was stripped back and reimagined from the ground up. The commuter-focused accessories and practical add-ons were removed. In their place, a sharper, leaner, more deliberate stance was created. Every surface was reconditioned, and every detail reconsidered

Performance hasn’t simply been restored, but also elevated. Up front, an Andreani fork cartridge kit transforms the feel through the bars, tightening feedback and control. At the rear, Öhlins Blackline TR965 shocks provide composure and precision, giving the Speed Twin a more planted, confident ride.

Braking is sharpened with Galfer wave discs front and rear, delivering improved bite and feel. A fresh set of Dunlop Mutant tyres enhances grip and stability, reinforcing the bike’s newfound edge.

Breathing is opened up through a Zard 2-2 exhaust system, modified to fit the Speed Twin platform. The result is a freer-flowing setup with a deeper, more assertive soundtrack, which is mechanical, purposeful, and unmistakable. Quite literally, everything has been upgraded or reconditioned.

Visually, the transformation is just as considered. The custom paintwork from Image Design Custom has been finished in Dirty Sage and Denim Black, giving the Highland its muted, earthy, and grounded identity. All brightwork has been treated in black Cerakote to tighten the silhouette and reduce visual noise across the engine and chassis.

A Koso LED Thunderbolt headlamp paired with billet brackets modernises the front end, while discreet Motogadget Mo Blaze LED indicators and a clean tail tidy keep the lines uncluttered. A custom sump guard adds a subtle utilitarian edge, reinforcing the bike’s tougher stance.

The result is a Speed Twin that retains the soul of the original 2019 machine but carries the presence of something altogether more deliberate. It doesn't feel like a daily commuter anymore. It feels more focused, purposeful and reborn.

The Highland Speed Twin isn’t about replacing what was there before. It’s about refining it, taking a well-used platform and giving it a second life with sharper intent and elevated execution. A true Highland rebirth.
