2024 Breakout 117 Review Reading

The pinnacle of Harley-Davidson cruisers.

When the Breakout was introduced in 2013 it was available with the original "Twin Cam" powered 103 engine along with a higher-specced CVO® version. In 2018, the beefy cruiser received an upgrade with a new Softail chassis along with the option of a 107 or 114 Milwaukee Twin engine. Now we're here, the marvelous 117. Of the Harley® cruiser range, there's no mistaking that the Harley-Davidson Breakout™ 117 is the fastest, most powerful motorcycle you can hit the tarmac on.

The 117 model gets its name from the bigger, better, Milwaukee-Eight™ 117 air- and oil-cooled engine, which is the pinnacle of torque and displacement in a factory-installed, regular-production Harley-Davidson powertrain. The engine offers plenty of punch with a massive 1923cc capacity, feeling raw yet flexible with a familiar Harley character. With 102 HP and 168 Nm torque at 3,500 RPM, the 117 engine is an enjoyable upgrade on the smaller 114 model's 93 HP and 155 Nm torque at 3,250 RPM. The Breakout 117 also features a distinctive high-performance Heavy Breather intake with a forward-facing exposed filter element to flow more air into the engine.

More performance, classic cruiser design.

While the engine is impressive alone, we couldn't talk about the Breakout 117 without pointing out how gorgeous it looks. With a raked front fork, teardrop-shaped tank, single headlight, two-piece aluminium dual seat, beefy new chrome engine, and a dual exhaust gracing both sides of the bike, the newest Breakout is a marvel to look at with the premium build quality we've come to expect from a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The equipment and electronics are about as minimal as you can get, with ABS, switchable traction, and cruise control available on a tiny LCD found engrained in the center of the handlebars. The slick, barebones design stays true to the build of the bike and looks simplistic, yet charming.

What's just as charming is the way it rides. With 19mm higher bar risers, the handlebars are closer to the rider with a reshaped seat to create a seamless flow into the new tank. These minute changes have made a huge improvement in comfort on the road and while the Breakout may not be a tourer, you can easily enjoy some extended riding. Newly designed 26-spoke cast aluminium wheels are matched with chunky Michelin® Scorcher™ 21" front and 18" back tyres to lean into the aggressive look of the bike, and the low and long frame, weighing 310kg wet, feels hefty but is well worth getting used and only feels right with the strong, beefy character of the bike.

The 2023 Breakout has bought back a larger, beautifully shaped 18.9-litre fuel tank used by models previous to the 2018 version. Surrounding the tank, the 117 is bigger and brighter, dripping in chrome from the fender supports, side covers, and muffler shields, to the turn signals, mirrors, and Heavy Breather intake. For 2024 the
Breakout 117 has moved on from the popular Baja Orange to the new Alpine Green,  Billiard Gray, Blue Burst, White Onyx Pearl, and classic Vivid Black.

The Breakout 117 is available to test ride now at your local LIND Harley-Davidson, ready to experience on the open road. Speak to our friendly sales teams at Guildford, Newmarket, Reading, or Watford today so we can help find the perfect Harley-Davidson for you.
